Another new toy -- My Bernina 530

Image
I came across a great deal on a Bernina and bought it. I feel a little nuts for buying it on a whim the way I did. The machine is great - very very classy. But, the harp is really small for quilting and I love thread snips to be auto. I am a lead foot and the auto cutter just makes it one second faster to quilt. The Bernia may not stick around here - as much as I have bitched about the Smarter by Pfaff - Im starting to really love it. The Bernina 530 seems like a solid machine, it does things really well... I had a hard time doing raw edge applique with it.. the fabric kept getting bunched up in front of the foot even with my adjusting the pressure foot ... the pfaff never had any problem with feeding. The Bernina also ate my fabrics a few times -- maybe wrong needle .. but, with a 5.5mm needle hole it really pissed me off as the Pfaff does not eat fabric at all and it has a 9 mm hole where the needle is. I am also used to the dual feed on the Pfaff and the needle up/down v...

Out in drag last night

I had so much fun last night. I found a big piece of lame fabric and made a dress. I went out and danced like crazy. It was crazy fun. Today Im even a little tired from being so nuts last night. I also spent lots of time reading posts online about sewing machines. Im obsessed with machines. Im pretty sure I dont want the Pfaff C-1100 pro. I dont like a few things about the way the computer is set to work. I think it could be a fine machine - it is a very strong machine. It works well. I would still tell people who are looking at machines to go and look at the C-1100 pro. I have to say - part of the reason I bought a Pfaff is because the Pfaff dealer here is wonderful! I love the Pfaff dealer. I also really like 9mm stitches and the idea of the IDT (built in walking foot). I may talk to the dealer and see if I can trade out the C-1100 pro for a used Q.E. 4.0 she has in the store. But, I dont know what I will do. I'll talk to the dealer Monday and see what ...

Free Motion Quilting - demo on Grand quilter.

Image
Funny pic, right? Ha - another vid with bad sound - but, here is some information on free motion quilting. I love the straight stitch machines they are making now. Lots of the old singers are very good, too. I love free motion quilting - and this is a quilt, another made from all recycled fabrics. The batting is the batting made from recycled soda bottles. I think its called dream green. The batting is a nice weight and a good loft. The loft helps make the free motion quilting show up. Here is a pic of the quilt before it was finished. Its all applique.

Smarter by Pfaff -- c1100 pro .. review

i got this machine about a month ago. i traded up from a pfaff ambition 1.0. a thread cutter was important to me because i started to work on whole quilt applique.  this machine has speed (1200 spm. faster than the bernina 820) and is strong. there are other great features like, a leg lift, 9mm stitches, built in walking foot, bright led lights, thread cutter, needle up down via foot pedal, and a full stitch manipulation... mirror, flip, lengthen. when i bought mine the "quilters tool box" was a free gift. it came with some great quilting feet and a huge table. the machine does everything it claims to do. and does it well. i love decorative stitches, and this machine makes great dense ones. i had to tinker with the stitch balance but, now they are perfect. the bobbin is a nice front loading one. the only issue ive had is the low bobbin light sometime does not come on. mostly due to fuzz/lint in the bobbin area. ill ...
