Fresh applique

Hello - !  Ive been doing various forms of raw edge applique for years. I loved using the "hover foot" on the Viking machines Ive had to do gorgeous blanket stitches around shapes.  I also use a straight stitch machine to do straight stitching around shapes.  Ive posted a youtube video I made about the following quilt. The video below is just me talking.    The applique above is raw edge with machine embroidery designs and free motion quilting.  I love raw edge applique. I do not do any hand work, or turned edge applique. All the best to you.  Taffy.

I finished with the KING size quilt -

Another recycled fabric quilt! I went crazy doing free motion quilting- I messed with as many different patterns as I could think of in the blocks. I dont know as many patterns I some people - and, Ive never been good at doodles. I am better at making patterns. This quilt is huge - a big bad KING size one. The batting is not recycled in this quilt - it is a new cotton batting - Im pretty excited to see what happens when it shrinks a little bit when I dry it. Working with recycled T-shirt fabrics - I have come to accept that I will have some tucks and folds in the quilted tops. I am more interested in color and pattern anyhow -- I forgive those tucks. You can see I used a straight Stitch to applique the pieces. I sold the Zig-Zag machine and am using my Straight Stitch machine now for everything. I took these pics outside before all of the quilting was finished.

This can be a pillow case front -

I like the work - but, it took very long to make. It is the left over scraps from the dots bright quilt I made.

I had been working in the Garden - we have a small area in the front of our house and on the side of the house where there is about a 5 foot piece of land that we can put a flower garden in. A friend of mine came over and really helped me get motivated to get the back garden done. I worked hard tog et the front one done - but, always neglect the side. Now, it looks great back there. Next summer it will fill in and look so full and flower-y! I cant wait.

Pink Baby quilts!

I cut so many pink t-shirts for the baby quilts and then the Fiesta Flamingo quilt that Im still working through all of the pieces! Here are two more Baby quilts I made with Pinks .. I love the over the top quilting on the second one and the -- sorta -- roses and random blue flower on the first one. Ive been looking at the gardens around my house and taking pics of them for inspiration.

Easy recycled quilt ...

These are coverletts - and very light applique tops -- They are ment to go to the beach or on the couch ... on the wall .. or, on the bed on a hot night. Just applique on top of sheets ... very easy and fast. Quilt show for the July art walk at Mesa Verde.

Hey, Its been a few weeks - crazy here on my end. The computer broke during school finals. And finals were the last thing I wanted to be doing at ALL ! I have been quilting, here are some pics of this quilts process. The above pic was taken while I was putting it together - the below one was taken before I quilted it. Dishes on a quilt?

I used to collect Fiesta ware dinnerware. I was crazy for the stuff. I have been working on a red and orange qult and got this idea to put applique decals on the quilt  that look like a bad blue willow knock off print. I dont know if I love it.

Ive been working on this recycled fabric quilt. I wanted to try to make a quilt that vibrated and teased the eye. I think it worked out. The quilt looked ugly all through the making of it - but im happy with the results.

Well, I still need to bind. I am in love with this quilt. The free motion quilting is the best Ive ever done. Recycled fabrics - 100%! And recycled soda bottle batting. I love this quilt.

Hard work!

Ive been busting my hump working on getting things done for the show. Its really exciting to have my first show so, it made the work easy. But, I have been working hard for it. I wanted to have lots of new work in sizes and prices ranges that would make lots of potential shoppers happy. I also wanted to be happy with the style and quality of the things I sent out. Ive got another new quilt almost done for the show - but, for some reason in the last half hour of quilting I was having lots of thread shredding. I changed the needle, rethreaded... repeat, repeat --- and nothing fixed the problem. I messed with tension, too and changed threads ... I had to give up and take some time off. Its late so, Ill prob take out the dogs and lay down for bed. I haven't said yet in this post, but - dont forget I sew with recycled fabrics. While I enjoy contemporary quilts. The modern quilt movement isnt totally my thing. I dont really like minimal design. I like max design. Anyhow - tha...

Its really late at night. Im kinda pooped. It has been spring break but, now- its time to get back to work. I went out tonight and had some good laughs. On Tuesday, I made a video about sewing machine basic parts but, it took so long to load and then the up-load failed anyway. I got mad. I made a new video tonight using the camera on the computer. The sound sucks. But, there are some cool quilts in the video - straight edge and zig zag - raw edge applique.

Process

I like pics of works in progress. Im working on a large scale quilt of this wall hanging. I made that little quilt a few weeks ago - and now - Ill take the parts I like and make it bigger. Here, Ive cut some pieces and put some onto a foundation. Again, Im using recycled fabrics - and a straight stitch to raw edge applique the pieces onto the foundation.

Im having a art show!
